Description:
Tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine hydrochloride is a trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) derivative of the pyridine molecule. It is a colorless solid that can be synthesized by reacting pyridine with TFA and formamide in the presence of sodium sulfate or hydrogen sulfate. Tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine hydrochloride is most often used as an industrial solvent to produce polymers. The reaction time for the synthesis has been shown to depend on the formamide concentration, which has an effect on the polymerization reaction. Tetrahydrothieno[3,2-c]pyridine hydrochloride also reacts with clopidogrel to form its active metabolite, which inhibits platelet aggregation and decreases blood clotting.
