Kielcorin is a hemostatic agent that has been shown to have coagulant and antibacterial activity. It is a potent inhibitor of the enzyme chelerythrine, which is involved in the synthesis of procoagulant factors and may have an effect on depression. Kielcorin has been shown to have minimal inhibitory concentration values between 0.2-0.4 mg/ml for bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and subtilis, with no activity against viruses. The compound also inhibits the growth of human lymphocytes in vitro. This product can be used in cell culture studies to determine the minimal inhibitory concentration value of different bacterial strains.
