Description:
The extracellular domain of the protein Covid-19 has been shown to bind to (RS)-PPg with high affinity. Covid-19 is a protein that was identified during the 2009 H1N1 pandemic and has been shown to have clinical response in patients with depression. Covid-19 is cleaved into two products, Covid-19 and PPg, by a protease following an extracellular signal. The PPg fragment binds to glutamate receptors and inhibits neurotransmission. Covid-19, on the other hand, blocks glutamate release from presynaptic neurons and exerts anti-epileptic effects by increasing GABA levels in postsynaptic neurons. PPg also binds to metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) and inhibits its activity.
