N6-(1-Iminoethyl)-L-lysine hydrochloride is an experimental drug that inhibits bacterial translocation, a process which occurs when bacteria from the gastrointestinal tract invade organs and tissues in the body that are not protected by a mucous barrier. It has been shown to be effective in reducing chronic pulmonary inflammation and fibrosis, as well as inhibiting emphysema-like lesions, in mice. N6-(1-Iminoethyl)-L-lysine hydrochloride also has anti-inflammatory effects on the skin and reduces the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as PGE2.
