Description:
Retrorsine N-oxide is a genotoxic agent that has been shown to cause liver lesions and skin cancer in the rat liver microsomes. It is also capable of causing liver damage in humans when used for long periods of time. Retrorsine N-oxide is an oxidized form of retrorsine, which is a natural toxin found in the plant Dichapetalum cymosum. The increased toxicity may be due to the presence of hydroxyl groups, which are more reactive than hydrogen atoms, or due to its ability to induce matrix effects. Retrorsine N-oxide has been shown to have carcinogenic potential in animals, with the most severe effects occurring after chronic exposure. It has also been shown to be genotoxic in cultured human liver cells.
