Description:
8-Bromo-AMP is a nucleotide analog that is taken up by cells via an amp-activated protein. Once inside the cell, 8-Bromo-AMP can inhibit the cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase enzyme and thereby increase levels of cyclic nucleotides. 8-Bromo-AMP has been shown to have a cytostatic effect on carcinoma cell lines in vitro and in vivo. This may be due to its ability to inhibit the enzyme adenine nucleotide translocase, which transports adenosine triphosphate (ATP) into the mitochondria, thus limiting energy metabolism.
