Prostaglandin F3α is an intermediate in the synthesis of prostaglandins. It is a potent vasodilator and has been shown to increase blood pressure in animals. Prostaglandin F3α is produced by some skin cells, such as keratinocytes, and can be detected in their secretions. The symptoms of high prostaglandin F3α concentrations are not well defined, but may include increased blood pressure, headache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Prostaglandin F3α levels can be measured by assays that measure hippuric acid or fatty acids.
